Indilinx製Barefoot も何かが違う!?

では、

「話に聞いたところ、CrystalDiskMarkで最近のキャッシュ内蔵SSDを計測すると、
メーカー公称値より遅く表示される傾向があるそうですわ。」
「公称値って理論上だから、その数値が出なくても良いんじゃ?」
「SSDの公称値は、ほとんどの製品がその速度出てますぞ。で、CrystalDiskMark
だと数十MB/sは低くなるそうなので、この数値だけを見るのはどうかと。」

というコメントがありますし、Indilinx製Barefoot SSDコントローラーにおいても書き込むデータがシンプルなパターンとランダムなパターンで結果が異なるような何らかの工夫がされているのは間違いなさそうですね。

※Indilinx製Barefoot SSDコントローラーを搭載した製品は 1 年前から出ていたので今まで全然気が付いていなかったというのは私の落ち度ですね orz
SSD だと CrystalDiskMark の結果が悪いというコメントを散見するようになっていたのはコレが原因かもしれません。

   一人で悩んでいてもしょうがないので、先日のオフ会でもお世話になった JSMonitor の Lansen http://d.hatena.ne.jp/Lansen/ さんに相談してみました。

なっ、なるほど。ということは、同じファイルサイズでも BMP ファイルをコピーするときと PNG/JPEG のファイルをコピーするときで速度が異なるということに・・・。

いよいよ SSD のベンチマークは難しくなってきました。

   ソースコードをどんなに見てもこれ以上シンプル/高効率な方法は思いつかない。そもそも、書き込みが 50MB/s も遅くなるほどのオーバーヘッドが存在するとは思えない。

...考え込むこと数十分...

ひょっとして書き込むデータの内容によって速度が違う!? と思いテストファイルに書き込むデータを 00h のみに変更したところ、ベンチマーク結果がものすごく変化しました。FFh のみに変更した場合も同様の結果でした。どうやら、ランダムなビットパターンとシンプルなビットパターンで速度が異なるようです。
※2.2 では、ランダムなビットパターンを使用しています。

HDTune および ATTO Disk Benchmark はシンプルなビットパターンでテストを行っているのでしょう。(テストファイルは共有不可 + テスト後即削除されるため実際の中身はまだ見れていません。)

ちなみに、Intel X25-M G2 ではベンチマーク結果には有意な差はありませんでした。

このような現象には初めて遭遇しました・・・

最初は、Queue Depth が 4 というのが原因だと思っていたのですが、それ以外にも要因がありそうですねぇ。

   新世代コントローラ採用で話題の GMonster2 SFV1 http://www.photofast.co.jp/ をお借りすることが出来ましたのでさっそくベンチマーク。

◇いきなり異常判定
初回起動時 リードエラーレートの現在値 が 0 のため、異常と判定されます。一度 CrystalDiskMark を実行したところリードエラーレートの現在値は 100 となり正常判定になりました。
→ ファームウェアアップデートで治るかも。なんにせよ、購入したらとりあえず何らかのデータを読み書きしてみるのが精神衛生上良いかも。
※一度もデータを読み込んでいないからリードエラーは判定できないという理屈かもしれませんが、それなら 100 にしておけば良いのに。
※2/12 追記:電源をON/OFFするたびにリードエラーレートの現在値は 0 になることが判明したため、3.4.0 では対策を実施します。

◇使用時間が常に 0 時間に・・・
何度も S.M.A.R.T. 情報の再取得を行って確認したところ、生の値の上位2バイトが単調増加していました。しかも、数十秒で 0000h から FFFFh まで増えループすることから全く意味なし。
→ ファームウェアアップデートで治るかも。
※2/12 追記:勘違いでした。下位バイトも時間とともに増加していたので、今までどおりの判定で問題ありません。
◇ランダムアクセス
ものすごく速い!! NCQ にもバッチリ対応。

とくに制限は設けていませんが、接続台数が増える(USB-HUBを経由する)とUSBの使える帯域が減ったり遅延が大きくなっているのかもしれません。このプログラムはタイミングにシビアなので、データ転送が少しでも遅れたり揺らいだりすると具合が悪くなります。

Googleで C141-E270-01EN を検索してみてください。MBA3300xxのマニュアルがヒットすると思います。

3.4.0 Beta1でラシーの外付けHDDである「LaCie Little Disk」(USBとIEEE1394の両接続のタイプ。エレコムの型番はLCH-LD500T)を見ていたところ、気が付いた部分があったのでとりあえず報告させていただきます。

その部分はDisk Listのところで、3.3.0では
(2) ST9500325AS : 500.1 GB [1-X-X, sa1] (VID=059Fh, PID=1006h)
と出ていたのが、3.4.0 Beta1では
(2) ST9500325AS : 500.1 GB [1-X-X, mtron1] (VID=059Fh, PID=1006h)
と出ています(sa1がmtron1になっている)。mtron1て変かなと思いましたので。

ちなみに、これは以前、以下で報告させていただいた同じくラシーの外付けHDDが故障したので、その代替品ですが、

   MacBookProで旧IntelSSDをベンチマークさせてみました。
ドライバはのBootCamp3.1です。若干特殊な環境なので報告します。
残りの20GBにOSを押し込んでカツカツの容量なので、数値はよくないです。
NCQの効果はかなりあるんですね。

回答ありがとうございます。

>メーカーや世代によって物理フォーマットが違うようで、ZBRのゾーン内の1トラックあたりのセクタ数が一定のHDDと、そうではないHDDがあるようです。一定ではない場合にも色々あって、スペアセクタのためにユーザーに見えるセクタ数が少ないトラックが一定間隔で混じっているものや、ゾーン内を細かく区切って書き込み周波数を変えている(=1トラックのセクタ数が異なる)ものがあるようです。

そういうのもあるんですね。初めて聞きました。

ただ、これは愚痴ですが、実際のハードディスクに関しては、NDAを結んだ企業ならいざ知らず、一般の個人が読める資料は極めて限られているので、普通のユーザーが知っている知識は現在実際に使われている技術から激しく遅れているのではないかと思ってたりします。

数千〜5千トラックの平均値を表示しています。
しかし、表示の桁数に十分なほどは収束しないHDDがあります。

メーカーや世代によって物理フォーマットが違うようで、ZBRのゾーン内の1トラックあたりのセクタ数が一定のHDDと、そうではないHDDがあるようです。一定ではない場合にも色々あって、スペアセクタのためにユーザーに見えるセクタ数が少ないトラックが一定間隔で混じっているものや、ゾーン内を細かく区切って書き込み周波数を変えている(=1トラックのセクタ数が異なる)ものがあるようです。

HDDの物理フォーマットがどうなっているのか、これ以上の詳しい話は、HDDメーカーの出している技術資料をあたってください。

この点については、記録面が一つしかないHDDと、複数あるHDD(同じ機種の容量違い)でトラック間の移動時間に差があるかどうかで、同じ記録面上のトラックへの移動時間と、違う記録面上のトラックへの移動時間に差があるかどうか分かるのではないかと思ってたりします。

その関係で、よろしければもう一つ教えていただきたいのですが、sustainedの場合はどれぐらいの数のトラックをまたがった場合の平均と考えればよいのでしょうか? 4〜6は軽く越えるでしょうか? 言い換えれば、計測の際にどのぐらいの容量の領域を対象にしているかということなのですが(2.5インチの場合、最近の機種では、最外周で1トラックが1MB弱程度になります)。
